Laying the groundwork: mapping and implementing accountability tactics for transforming the built environment in Europe

This report, led by the Autonomy Institute and funded by Laudes Foundation, aims to map a range of accountability tactics that have helped to create positive change across different industries on climate change and social inequality. An in-depth analysis of literature, case studies combined with the expert interviews formed a basis of suggesting the accountability tactics that would be most effective in supporting the transition of the built environment.

This report highlights the urgent need for industrial transitions across all sectors of the global economy to address the climate crisis and work towards a net-zero, equitable future. Commissioned by Laudes Foundation, Wallace Global Fund, and Ford Foundation, it maps organisations and efforts focused on achieving just transitions. Conducted by Climate Horizons between August and December 2023, the research identified over 600 initiatives in Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia, spanning five major sectors: built environment, fashion, finance and capital markets, and extractives (including fossil fuels).
